Relievers – qualified and unqualified

We have a team of relievers who help us out as required with covering absences and leave of our permanent team. Having consistency and familiar faces is important to us and something we really value for our children, whānau and team, and so we prefer to use our own relievers ahead of agency staff.

If you are a qualified teacher, we can work with you to give you as much notice so you can plan ahead. If you do agency work currently, we can provide more consistency for you and reduce your travel if you live nearby.

Often our unqualified relievers live locally or are students or have some spare whole days. This requires no qualifications just a love of children and an enthusiastic nature – full training will be given. Reach out if this is something that you may be interested in.

Qualified teachers

Being small and independent, the feedback from our team is that they feel respected and valued and so are happy. There are many reasons why we have a good number of long-term employees including:
• ratios – we aim for 1:8 over two and 1:4 under twos
• rostered non-contact time each week
• we have a three day minimum attendance for children and so relationships are strong meaning a relatively settled environment
• we pay for Teaching Registration and First Aid courses (but courses done in your time)
• a generous PD budget to support your professional growth
• Team Fund: each month our lovely owners put some money into a dedicated account for each room team and that team is able to decide on how they spend it. So far there have been dinners out, mini golf and coffee shouts with more in the pipeline.
• family owned
• Point Chev is licensed for 49 children and Waterview for 70

Students

We always have a number of student teachers using us as their home centre and have a strong culture within our senior teaching team to mentor students. Please email heidi@therumpusroom.co.nz if you are looking for a home centre as you start your study journey, or if you are a more senior student and are unhappy with your home centre and would like to change to a more supportive one.

Qualified Reliever

If you are a qualified teacher and would like regular relieving work, please get in touch. We can provide regular days, usually a full eight-hour shift. You would be needed in any of our age group rooms, sometimes with short notice to cover illness absences of our permanent team, but where leave cover is required, there can be more notice – we will work with you in this. Both our Point Chevalier and Waterview centres have wonderful teaching teams who you would be working and learning alongside and feedback from relievers is that we are a lovely place to work – many ask if they can join full time.

Please get in touch if you would like to come in and look around or send through your cv to heidi@therumpusroom.co.nz

Unqualified Reliever

Unqualified Relievers are an important part of our team. This role tends to suit local people, students or anyone who is able to work 6-8 hours, usually at short notice. No experience is necessary. just a love of children and enthusiasm! Full training will be given.
